Sanding

November 7, 2006 by secretagentarthur

I went down the studio last night, but it was too late on a Sunday to pick up some Titebond on the way.  So all I got done was to sand flat the tops of three bottles (1L ginger ale, 750mL Evian, 330mL Innocent smoothie), through to 240grit (can’t be arsed to go up to 400 or more at this stage) in readiness for glueing up the first test this afternoon.   Turns out the smoothie lid doesn’t have much structural integrity.  When I was sanding, the middle bit would go all concave, but when the pressure wasn’t on it was still very convex.  I’ll have to try to put pressure on the middle of it as well as around the edge when I glue it up.

Other notes:  Plastic dust is more unpleasant than maple dust, but still not as bad as mdf (at least in the moment–remind me to get a proper mask when I start the real thing).  Only just found my camera battery charger last night, so photos of the process will have to wait.
